ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME:

I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist working in the tradition of the British Independents, incorporating best practice in developed psychoanalysis from Sigmund Freud to the present day. I work therapeutically with people of all ages (18 years+) and at all life stages: principally as an adult psychotherapist, I also have both wide experience and ongoing training in work with adolescents and young adults.  I have been in private practice since 2013.

Qualifications:

I hold a Master of Science degree in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Trinity College, Dublin) and a Clinical Diploma from the Irish Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

THE WAY I WORK:

I offer time-limited psychodynamic therapy lasting for 20 sessions plus one post treatment review. In the first four assessment sessions we will work out the main issue that you feel is stopping your development and reaching your full potential and will see if this therapy is right for you, if this is a good match and if you feel comfortable in engaging.

For example, the main issue could be ‘social anxiety’ or it could be ‘no sense of self and chronic people pleasing’. We will work out what for you is the central issue and what is bringing you to therapy.

If you are happy to continue, we will embark on 16 treatment sessions where we will explore the central issue, delve into where it came from, link the trauma associated with it, explore the family relations around it and discover how it became a defence that may have served a purpose previously but is now keeping you stuck and preventing you from moving forward. We will examine how it is affecting you in the present day and your relationship with others- this not only includes the relationship with me but also more importantly the relationship with yourself. Towards the end we may explore if anything has changed or if something has been resolved in your mind and what ending therapy means to you.

After the ending of treatment, there will be a break of 6 weeks where you and I will reflect on the treatment, followed by one post treatment review meeting to explore your thoughts on therapy and if brief treatment therapy is an end in itself or whether you want to embark on a different path towards self discovery and what that path looks like.
